I thought the extract of email would work as an honest review, because I still feel strongly about the book and I keep recommending it, moreover, "Atonement" has become one of my all-time favourite books, and the position has not shifted for 5 years now, and I doubt it ever will. An outstanding book.

Instead of the expected sharpness of focus, the first 70 or so pages are a lengthy summary of 2002-03-07 · Indeed ''Atonement'' emerges as the author's most deeply felt novel yet -- a novel that takes the glittering narrative pyrotechnics perfected in his last book, ''Amsterdam,'' and employs them in "Atonement" is a book written in three major parts, with a final denouement from the author. Part One tells the story of one day/night in 1935 at the Tallis family estate north of London, England.
